Bromley cope with first-half dismissal of Whitely to win 3-2 at Dorking Wanderers

Andy Woodman was delighted with Bromley’s resilience in their 3-2 victory at Dorking Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens had to play with 10 men after Corey Whitely, pictured, was sent off in the 41st minute for two bookable offences.

Michael Cheek, Omar Sowunmi and Harry Forster scored for Bromley, who are eighth in the National League.

Woodman said: “An amazing three points, anyone who was here would realise what we’ve had thrown at us today.

“We had Reece Hannam knocked out after a minute – not even a minute, the first ball in the air – with a cut in his head.

“We then had Billy Bingham come off with a hamstring injury and we had the craziest, most bizarre two yellow cards for Corey Whitely.

“Then we had 11 minutes injury time before half time and eight minutes at the end – but we ground out a result.

“We didn’t let it get us down [the red card]. Great for Cheeky to score again, shame about Marriott, we had to take him off.

“It was a good all-round performance from the team. We were workmanlike – scrapping, challenging and competing for every ball – and that’s what we’re about.

“We were up against it and the lads defended really well, 10 men against a team like that, who have scored goals at will, was a big ask.

“To hang in there, I’m chuffed to bits for them.”
