Burnley’s Zian Flemming still in Millwall’s FPL mini-league – as Amsterdam attacker ‘bantered’ for losing top spot
Zian Flemming is no longer part of Millwall’s squad – but he is still in the Fantasy Premier League mini-league that the players set up.
The Amsterdam-born attacker signed on loan for Burnley at the end of the summer transfer window. The Clarets also have an obligation to buy when Flemming has made a certain amount of appearances.
Flemming is not eligible to face the Lions on Sunday due to the terms of the loan agreement.
But Millwall midfielder George Honeyman has revealed that there is still contact with the former Fortuna Sittard man.
“He text me after my goal the other week and I text him after his first goal for Burnley,” Honeyman told the South London Press. “We have a bit of back of forth. He’s still in our Fantasy Premier League and I keep an eye on him through that.
“He was a really popular character in the dressing room. He was a tremendous guy.
“You take the player out of it and you miss the person, but that is the nature of the beast. He’s gone to a team dropping down from the Premier League, which he will probably see as a step up for him.
“It’s good for us he is missing at the weekend because, knowing him, I’m sure he’d be 200 per cent motivated to show what we’re missing.
“I’m probably the fortunate one who has benefitted from him going, because I get to play in a more preferred position of mine, number 10. So as much as I miss the person, I’m not too disappointed he’s missing on the football pitch.”
Asked about the performance of Flemming in FPL, Honeyman added: “Zian was top and now I think Duncan [Watmore] has overtaken him. When we were driving back from Swansea I think Dunc text him to give him a bit of banter.
“I’m the reigning champ but the reigning champ is having a stinker. It’s gone to the extent where you’re worried to open the app because you’re scared about what is going to come up. I need to get over myself and little bit – use a wildcard and bring myself back into the game. It’s like the Championship table – there is a long way to go.”
Millwall have won their last two matches and are only three points off sixth-placed Blackburn.
Now comes home fixtures against Burnley and Leeds.
Honeyman said: “We have got good confidence, especially after the week we’ve just had.
“It doesn’t take the pressure off, because we’re at home and we fancy ourselves. But we can go with a more relaxed, focused mindset rather than a desperate mindset.
“These are good games and it will be packed out at The Den both times. These are the games you want to play in, against a couple of the best teams in the division.”
