Caroline Dubois clinches qualification for Tokyo 2021
Caroline Dubois has clinched her place at Tokyo 2021 after outpointing Italy’s Rebecca Nicoli at the European Olympic Boxing qualifiers in Paris.
The Greenwich boxer, 20, needed two victories at the event to ensure she qualified.
Dubois won a unanimous points verdict over Finland’s Mira Potkonen on Friday.
And she was back in action the following day as she defeated Nicoli in only her fifth senior bout.
Dubois was one of five members of the GB Boxing team to secure qualification to the Olympics. The Games were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dubois said: “I feel really good.
“I have come here and achieved what I set out to achieve. The fight yesterday [against Potkonen] was tough, but I know what to expect. Her game plan is to bully opponents so I know what was going to happen. The coaches did a good job. They kept me cool and I got through.
“I did not come all this way to stop now. I know who I have got next [in this tournament] and I want to go all the way.”
Dubois – the sister of new WBA Interim champion Daniel – will face Sweden’s Agnes Alexiusson in the next round.
