Caroline Dubois takes silver at European qualifying event for Tokyo Games
Caroline Dubois has secured her spot at the Tokyo Olympic Games but had to settle for silver at the European qualifying event in Paris.
The 20-year-old southpaw from Greenwich, the sister of professional heavyweight prospect Daniel, needed two victories to ensure she qualified for this summer’s tournament.
Dubois, representing GB Boxing, unanimously outpointed number one seed Mira Potkonen on Friday and then Italy’s Rebecca Nicoli on Sunday.
She set up a meeting with Ireland’s Kellie Harrington on Tuesday after a points win over Sweden’s Agnes Alexiusson in her semi-final.
But Harrington, the number two seed and ranked sixth in the world, had too much experience for the South Londoner.
The reigning European Games silver medallist, who won gold at the 2018 World Championships in Delhi, took a split decision. One judge marked it 29-28 in Dubois’ favour but the others scored it 30-37 (twice) and 29-28 (twice) in favour of the Dublin woman.
