Catford’s Ellie Scotney challenges for European super-bantam title on October 8

Ellie Scotney is set to challenge for the European super-bantamweight title next Saturday.

The unbeaten Catford fighter (5-0) will challenge Mary Romero (8-2) on the undercard of Chris Eubank Junior-Conor Benn at Greenwich’s 02 Arena.

Spaniard Romero has made two defences of the European title since outpointing Ivanka Ivanova in January 2020.

Scotney, 24, retained her WBA Intercontinental title in May when she won a wide unanimous points verdict over Maria Cecilia Roman.

The former England amateur turned professional late in 2020.

Scotney is fifth in the WBA’s world rankings. The governing body’s world champion is Venezuela’s Mayerlin Rivas, 34. She won the belt in July 2020.
