‘Change their mindset’ – Patrick Vieira challenges Crystal Palace players after Brighton defeat

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has challenged his players to change their mentality after Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to rivals Brighton.

Brighton’s only goal and winner came in the 15th minute when Solly March slotted a left-footed shot beyond Joe Whitworth from just inside the area.

The Eagles registered 11 shots during the 90 minutes at The Amex but failed to find a way past Jason Steele.

Palace have now gone four games without a goal in the Premier League.

The Palace boss said: “When you’re looking at the game, the organisation, the discipline we had, how aggressive we were tonight, I was pleased with that.

“I am concerned about scoring goals. But when I look at the team’s performance today, the work ethic, our organisation and how the players executed our plan, I was pleased with that.

“Our players have to change their mindset, but we have to be more aggressive going forward and more aggressive in the last third. I will start putting the pressure on until we get what we want.

“It is difficult, but the performance today gave us hope. The chances we created gave us hope.

“We defended well and managed to win the ball in some really important parts of the field.

“But what let us down tonight was our offensive play. Not taking those kinds of opportunities we created let us down today.

“The difference between those two teams today was that they had one shot and managed to score.

“We had a lot of opportunities and chances but didn’t score. That was the issue for us today.

“It’s not about showing more positivity – it’s about showing the ingredients you need to compete and win football matches.”
