Charlie Austin delighted at marking QPR return with a goal

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlie Austin reckons QPR is the perfect fit for him after making an instant scoring impact on his return.

The West Bromwich Albion striker rejoined the R’s on loan on Saturday and his close-range finish put them on their way to a 2-0 victory at Luton Town in midweek.

Austin, 31, scored 45 goals in 75 starts for Rangers before making the switch to Southampton in 2016.

Asked about netting on his first match back, he said: “It’s pretty special. The ball just landed exactly where a centre-forward wants it to be – a yard out, a tap in.

“[The manager told me] to and enjoy myself. Go and play like I used to. Go and put a shift in and drag the lads along. I felt like I did that for 55 minutes.

“Sometimes Charlie Austin and QPR are made for each other.”

Austin felt he instantly hit it off with fellow frontman Lyndon Dykes.

“Sometimes it just happens. It happened with me and Bobby [Zamora] all those years ago. It just clicked.

“I feel we’re going to create a good partnership – but let’s not forget Macca [Macauley Bonne] who came on and also scored.”
