Charlton Athletic and AFC Wimbledon meet in EFL Cup first round

Charlton Athletic will face AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the EFL Cup – with the fixture due to take place at The Valley in the week commencing August 9.

It is the second season that the two clubs have been drawn against each other in one of the cup competitions. The Dons won 2-1 in an EFL Trophy tie at the start of the last campaign.

The Addicks have only lost once at home to Wimbledon, in a September 2016 League One fixture.

Charlton won 5-2 in their last meeting in SE7 in December 2020 and drew 2-2 in the reverse fixture at Plough Lane, which was Nigel Adkins’ first match in charge after succeeding Lee Bowyer.

The Addicks have been drawn in Group G of the EFL Trophy along with Crawley Town, Leyton Orient and Southampton U21s.

Wimbledon are in Group B and will face Crystal Palace U21s, Portsmouth and Sutton United.
