Charlton Athletic attacker Clarke could make permanent exit in January transfer window

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Billy Clarke could make a permanent exit from Charlton Athletic before the end of the January transfer window.

The attacker has struggled to get game time this season after recovering from cruciate knee ligament damage in December 2017.

And Addicks boss Lee Bowyer – who loaned Nicky Ajose to Mansfield on Monday – has admitted that Clarke could also be heading off.

“I think Billy is interested in going out on loan,” he said. “It could maybe even be permanent, because he is up [a free agent] in the summer.

“He is back from injury now and obviously wants to play. He has been training every day for a while now. Unfortunately for Billy we’ve got players that are above him and ready to play. There is that competition for places.

“Billy wants to play football and I can’t guarantee that is is going to do that at the moment.”
