Charlton Athletic bid for Cheltenham Town striker Goodwin

Charlton Athletic are keen on a deal for Cheltenham Town striker Will Goodwin.

The South London Press understands the Addicks have tabled an offer for the 21-year-old but that has not been accepted by their League One counterparts.

Charlton have made signing a targetman a priority in this window with Miles Leaburn not expected back until the summer while Chuks Aneke’s second spell in SE7 has been ravaged by injuries.

And that has seen Charlton attempt to raid Cheltenham for a second time this season after prising Alfie May away in the summer.

May is the fastest player to score 20 goals in all competitions for the Addicks in 51 years after he reached that tally in Saturday’s defeat to Peterborough.

Goodwin still has more than a year to run on his Cheltenham Town contract. He joined the Robins for a modest fee from Stoke City in January 2023.

Last season he struggled for game time due to the performances of May and Aidan Keena.

But Goodwin, a big and mobile number nine, has scored six times in 16 league appearances this season.
