Charlton Athletic boss asked about latest state of play on contract talks with young prospects

Charlton Athletic manager Dean Holden has explained why he is not ready to go public with the identity of the young players they are in trying to land on new contracts.

Former technical director Andy Scott revealed at the start of February that a trio of youngsters were the subject of offers.

Since then Australian goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer has signed a new long-term deal.

Midfielder Aaron Henry is out of contract at the end of this season while centre-back Lucas Ness has adapted impressively to first-team football with the Addicks since being recalled from a loan at Torquay United.

Asked about the talks with the young players, Holden told the South London Press: “Yeah, Ash was one of the three. We’re delighted Ash has agreed his contract.

“It would be the wrong thing for me to do, while we are still in talks with these players, to now come out and say who they are, because it probably puts more pressure on them than we want to at the moment.

“They are young players. Offers have gone in to them and their agents and we’re still in discussions with them.

“There is no really big news on any of that, really.”
