Charlton Athletic boss asked if transfer window deal snubs had left any problems with in-demand players
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones says there has not been any issues with any of the players they rejected interest in during the last transfer window.
The Addicks boss did an interview with the club’s official website in which he spoke about clubs from higher levels coveting some of his squad. Jones has previously talked about Tyreece Campbell, 21, having admirers.
But the League One club’s board would not play ball on selling.
Asked if that had made things difficult with those players, Jones said: “No, not really.
“We have got a lot of young players here and a lot of players who believe in what we do – that are happy here. What we have to do is provide a platform that keeps them moving forward and then there has to be an end goal for them. They have to trust us with that and all of them have.
“When players have trusted us in the past and trusted me, when I spoke to them personally, then they have never gone backwards. In fact, they have enhanced their careers considerably. So I have got a little bit of a track record that I can fall back on and point to those agents, parents and guardians that we have had to ask to entrust us.
“As a football club we have been very strong in that.
“I don’t think it has caused problems. We have a good squad here, good players and good people – they have all seen the bigger picture and we’re very delighted with that.”
