Charlton Athletic boss coy on transfer window pursuit of Cheltenham Town striker

Charlton head coach Michael Appleton has explained why he is not prepared to discuss Cheltenham Town striker Will Goodwin – with the 21-year-old emerging as prime transfer target for the South Londoners.

Charlton put in an improved offer yesterday which is being considered by the Robins board.

Oxford United are also keen on big targetman Goodwin.

Appleton told the South London Press: “There have been quite a few strikers mentioned already and I don’t like talking about other players at other clubs unless the situation is similar to what it was with Clarke-Harris – where a bid has been accepted. Then it is a different ballgame.

“Right now it is one of them where he is a Cheltenham player and will remain a Cheltenham player until someone agrees that the price is right. At that point, I’m more than happy to have a conversation and tell you what I think.

“I know Darrell pretty well – we both have the same representatives – so it is a little bit of an awkward one from that point of view. I’m sure if it did get to that point and there was an opportunity to talk about him then one of the people I’d be speaking to is Darrell.”
