Charlton Athletic boss has positive injury update on young striker Miles Leaburn

Charlton manager Dean Holden is hoping that Miles Leaburn will be back from his ankle injury before the end of this month.

The striker sustained damage after being on the receiving end of a poor tackle in the opening pre-season friendly against Welling United at the start of July.

Leaburn will miss the Addicks’ League One opener against Leyton Orient along with frontman Chuks Aneke. There is a reluctance to put a timescale on Aneke’s return although the former Arsenal and MK player is heading into the final phase of his rehab process.

“Miles got his boot off last Saturday morning and this will be his last week working in the gym,” Holden told the South London Press.

“He’s on the anti-gravity treadmill earlier this week, working at around 70 per cent of his body weight. By the start of next week he will be back out on the grass. He probably needs two or three weeks with the rehab team, on the grass, to get him up to speed and then hopefully we’ll see him back involved with the first team.

“By the third week of August, towards the end of the month, he should be back training with the group again.”
