Charlton Athletic boss Nigel Adkins asked about transfer window recruitment process
Nigel Adkins is set to get involved in Charlton’s transfer process once a list of targets have been drawn up by the club’s recruitment team.
Steve Gallen is the club’s director of football with Addicks owner Thomas Sandgaard also bringing in Ged Roddy as technical director in October.
Adkins was appointed as Lee Bowyer’s successor in March and is approaching his first transfer window.
The club have a number of their first-team squad out of contract as well as five loanees – Liam Millar, Matt Smith, Jayden Stockley, Ian Maatsen and Akin Famewo – all due to go back to their parent clubs.
Charlton have a chance of reaching the League One play-offs but that will be decided this Sunday as their regulation campaign finishes with the visit of champions Hull City.
Asked about the process of bringing in players, Adkins told the South London Press: “I like to be hands on but we have got a recruitment team here. Steve Gallen heads that up, Ged Roddy is in there – there is all the data analysis that goes on.
“There are attributes I’m looking for in the team. The guys are spending a lot of time researching the players who are out there. At the appropriate time we will sit down together and say ‘these are the players we can bring in, how do we go and do it?’ And I’ll be involved at that stage a bit more.”
