Charlton Athletic boss on run of fixtures against clubs in great peril of dropping out of League One

Charlton Athletic manager Dean Holden has warned that the club’s next run of fixtures are still tricky despite the fact they face a string of opposition in League One relegation danger.

The Addicks are at home to Accrington Stanley on Saturday before a Tuesday night fixture at Morecambe. The following weekend they go to Cambridge United.

All three of Charlton’s upcoming opponents are in the bottom five.

Holden’s side are eight points clear of drop danger but are winless in four, drawing one of those, and have not scored since the 1-0 victory at Forest Green Rovers on February 14.

“We’ve still got some work to do, in terms of getting some points to make sure we are absolutely safe at the end of the season,” Holden told the South London Press.

“We had a really good run and then tailed off a little bit in the last four games. We have played three teams in the top four and Peterborough are eighth.

“The run of games, from the outside, looks easier on paper. But I’m not stupid enough to think that’s going to be the case. Every game is a difficult one. You’ve got to make sure you are bang at it for every single one.

“We’ll just look at Accrington to start with. The games come thick and fast, we’re very quickly on the coach on Monday morning for the trip up to Morecambe. It’s a big trek. Then Cambridge next Saturday. Tough, but in a different way. These teams are absolutely fighting for everything, aren’t they? They are teams who are probably, more often than not, comfortable with being around that area of the table – in terms of expectation and size of club.

“We concentrate on ourselves. We have got to get that next win as quickly as we can.”
