Charlton Athletic boss planning scouting trip to watch Ipswich Town at AFC Wimbledon

Nigel Adkins will be an interested spectator at AFC Wimbledon’s home game with Ipswich Town tonight.

Charlton face the Tractor Boys at The Valley on Saturday.

If Ipswich were to win at Plough Lane it would move them ahead of the Addicks before their weekend meeting, although Paul Cook’s side will have played a match more.

Adkins told the South London Press: “I am going to the game tonight. I went to watch Doncaster against MK, I went to watch Sunderland against Peterborough and tonight I’m going to watch Ipswich at Wimbledon.

“As much as I can, I like to watch the opposition. I watch a lot of video footage as well – but you can’t beat going to watch a live game, looking at the opposition as best as you can to prepare yourself for what is going to come up.

“It will be a big challenge. Obviously I’ll have more of an idea after watching them live tonight.

“I know Paul Cook. Cooky did a brilliant job at Wigan and he has gone in there and, like anything, sometimes it takes a bit of time to turn things around.

“I played with Cooky at Wigan many, many, many years ago. He’s another one of the good guys who is passionate about how he does things and his teams will play football in the right way and be effective as well. We know it will be a real tough game for us but likewise we’re at home and we’ve got good momentum ourselves.

“We’ve got to make sure we do our homework, as best we can, to prepare for the game. The players have got to go out, perform and bring their best game to the table.”
