Charlton Athletic boss provides Terry Taylor and Panutche Camara injury update

Michael Appleton has confirmed that midfielder Terry Taylor has gone for a scan and is set for a period on the sidelines after coming off with an ankle injury in Saturday’s goalless draw at Shrewsbury.

Taylor, who joined in the summer on a permanent deal from Burton Albion, was forced off before half-time at the New Meadow and replaced by Luton Town loanee Louie Watson.

The 22-year-old had only returned to the squad on Saturday after suffering a concussion during the draw at Stevenage in Appleton’s first game in charge.

Taylor penned a three-year deal at The Valley.

“He’s gone for a scan today,” said Appleton.

“The initial fear is it’s his ankle, because he rolled his ankle early on in the game.

“He went knee to knee with one of their players a little bit later. He was really sore in a couple of areas.

“The ankle is the main issue. We don’t know the extent [of the injury] but we do know that he will be out for a period of time.”

Ipswich loanee Panutche Camara has been missing with a foot injury since the 2-1 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers in August.

“He’s been on the grass in the last three to four days,” confirmed the former Blackpool boss.

“He hasn’t been with the group but he’s been on the grass with the sports science staff.

“The injury is quite an acute one – it’s a difficult one at times. He’s had boots on and not had any major reaction from that, so hopefully it’s a good sign.”

Chucks Aneke has featured in every matchday squad under Appleton, coming on as a substitute against Stevenage, Wycombe and Shrewsbury.

The former Birmingham City striker missed the end of last season with a hamstring injury.

“He’s ready,” added Appleton, when asked whether the 30-year-old was able to start matches.

“I spoke with Chucks about that since the second day of me coming into the job. I asked him a few questions and he gave me genuine, honest answers.

“We have a pretty good relationship. There will be times when his role is to start and try to give us a foothold in the game and get us to play in the opposition’s half of the pitch.

“Whether that is tomorrow night or not? I’ll keep everyone waiting for that.

“But there is no doubt about it – touch wood – that he seems to be quite healthy at the minute injury-wise.”
