Charlton Athletic boss set to narrow down team selection options – with Millwall and Aberdeen friendlies to come
Dean Holden will use fewer players in Charlton’s final two pre-season friendlies against Millwall and Aberdeen.
The Addicks face their South London rivals at The Den on Tuesday before a final tune up at The Valley.
Charlton start their League One season at home to Leyton Orient on August 5.
“Every player has, pretty much, had two sets of 45 minutes and they’ve all had an hour over in Spain,” said Holden after yesterday’s 5-0 friendly win at Wealdstone. “Most of them have had 70-odd minutes in the two games this week.
“We’re getting towards the part of pre-season, Millwall and Aberdeen, where we’ll get 90 minutes into as many players as we can as we start to bring the squad down to 18 or 19 players, which is never easy because we’ve built a really good spirit.
“Naturally players will be disappointed when they find out they aren’t going to be involved but it doesn’t mean they won’t be involved against Leyton Orient in the first game.”
