Charlton Athletic captain reveals which Manchester United player’s shirt he wants after EFL Cup quarter-final

Charlton Athletic captain George Dobson says he would like to collect Casemiro’s shirt after tomorrow night’s EFL Cup quarter-final clash away to Manchester United.

The 25-year-old, who took over from Jayden Stockley as Charlton skipper following Dean Holden’s appointment, will lead the side out at Old Trafford tomorrow night.

Midfielder Dobson has made 75 appearances for the Addicks in all competitions since joining at the start of last season after he left Sunderland.

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro joined Erik ten Hag’s United side in the summer from Real Madrid in a deal worth up to £70million.

The 30-year-old has won five Champions Leagues, one Copa America and three Club World Cups during his career.

This is the first time the two sides have faced each other since February 2007, with goals from Park Ji-Sung and Darren Fletcher handing United the win.

“I have got about 30 tickets for tomorrow,” said Dobson.

“I probably normally have three or four, so it shows the United draw.

“It’s going to be such a special evening with such a huge atmosphere – it’s an evening everyone wants to be a part of.

“It’s going to be a brilliant occasion. It’s why you play football, for nights like these.

“Taking nearly 10,000 is just an unbelievable following. We’re going to go out there and give it our best.

“It’s not going to be easy, but if you can’t dream or believe, there is no point going.

“Probably after the game, you’re probably going to ask for a shirt, but when you’re playing, we’re going to be going out there thinking: ‘This is our chance to make history, this is our chance to cause that major upset’.

“I haven’t thought about it [which shirt to ask for after] too much. Probably, with the position I’m in, Casemiro would be one I’m interested in.

“A five-time Champions League winner, and being the player he is, he might be one I end up going for.”
