Charlton Athletic confirm deal for Wembley hero Ben Purrington
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Charlton Athletic have signed Rotherham United left-back Ben Purrington on a three-year deal.
We revealed earlier today that the Addicks had agreed a deal for the 23-year-old.
And Purrington flew to the club’s training base in Malaga to complete his medical after agreeing terms.
Charlton manager Lee Bowyer had made no secret of his desire to work with Purrington again as the defender impressed and was a regular after arriving in the January window.

He scored the equaliser for the Addicks in the League One play-off final win over Sunderland.
Purrington told the club’s website: “It’s great to have Ben back, he did so well for us last season. He came in during January and in total I think we lost two games the whole time he was with us and he scored at Wembley.
“He’s great, has a great attitude, he’s young, he wants to learn and he’s a winner, so all the boxes were ticked with Ben.
“He knows the group already, so that’s an advantage, so it was a nice surprise for the lads when he rocked up for lunch this afternoon.”

Purrington trained with Charlton today. He said: “It’s a great feeling to be back with the boys. I see that same togetherness feel that we had last year. I’ve seen that straight away with a hard session today.
“It’s a pleasure to be back, I can’t wait to get started. There is no better feeling now than being back especially after the unbelievable year we had last year.”
Head of recruitment Steve Gallen said: “He fitted in so well last year. The manager was keen to have him back, I was keen to have him back, the players will be delighted when they all see him.
“I’m sure the fans will be happy as well. He’s a good player who kept improving as the weeks went on right up to the last game when I thought he was excellent.”
