Charlton Athletic confirm departure of director of recruiting Steve Gallen
Charlton Athletic have confirmed that Steve Gallen has left his role as director of recruiting.
Gallen joined the Addicks in 2017 and had been heavily involved in the South London club’s transfer dealings.
His job title changed from head of recruitment to director of football in January 2020.
Gallen became director of recruiting in December 2021 – at a point when previous owner Thomas Sandgaard employed his son Martin as director of analysis.
Gallen remained in his position under a number of ownership changes – Roland Duchatelet, East Street Investments and Sandgaard.
Andy Scott was recently appointed technical director by Global Football Partners, who acquired the League One outfit off Sandgaard last month.
Charlton managing director James Rodwell, said: “I worked closely with Steve when I initially came into the building at the end of 2022 and he was a great help in the January 2023 transfer window. Subsequent to the takeover, we’ve mutually agreed that now is good time for all involved for him to move on.
“We’d like to thank Steve for everything he has done during his time at Charlton and wish him the best for the future.”
Gallen said: “I’m incredibly proud to have worn the Charlton badge for more than six years, which have included many ups and downs – the highlight being that incredible promotion against all odds in 2019.
“The staff, the players and the fans have been outstanding and I’ve made some really good friends during my time here. I want to wish the new ownership, Dean, his team, all the players and the fans the best of luck for the future.”
