Charlton Athletic confirm Peter Storrie as new CEO on consultancy basis

Charlton Athletic owner Thomas Sandgaard has appointed of Peter Storrie as the club’s chief executive officer.

Storrie has held senior positions at a variety of clubs including in the Premier League with West Ham United and Portsmouth.

He has also worked abroad in Italy, Colombia and Australia.

Sandgaard said: “Peter has been working in football for many years and has a lot of valuable experience. He’ll provide senior leadership at The Valley and will manage the running of the business. It is important for me to have someone as experienced and knowledgeable as Peter fill this role to plan for the medium to long term and as we position for potential new investments.”

The US-based Dane has also confirmed an end to takeover talks with a group led by Charlie Methven.

Sandgaard said: “We had an agreement in place and very specific terms that were clear in that agreement that were relevant to the end of January and coming into February which they didn’t comply with. There were key items in the deal, which they didn’t meet, so I had no option but to call the deal off.”

Chief operating officer Jim Rodwell, technical director Andy Scott and finance director Ed Warrick – brought into the club as part of Methven’s bid – have left.

Sandgaard said: “Following the end of those discussions we’re now looking at our options moving forwards. We’ve had a variety of parties that have been interested in investing or getting involved with the club and we’ll start to look at those options.

“In the meantime though, we have Peter Storrie in place to provide senior leadership and support to Dean Holden and Karen Hills as we look to build on good recent runs, finish the season strongly and prepare for next season.”

Storrie, hired on a consultancy basis, said: “I am really pleased that I have been asked to help lead this club forward during this period. I know there has been a lot of change over the last few months and that can bring a nervousness for supporters.

“My focus will be to use my experience working in football clubs around the world to provide support to staff during this period and to put us in the best position moving forwards.”
