Charlton Athletic defender receives first senior international call-up

Charlton Athletic defender Nathan Asiimwe has been called into the Uganda senior squad for the first time ahead of their friendlies against Comoros and Ghana.

The 19-year-old penned a new long-term deal with the Addicks in December and has made 23 appearances this season.

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family,” Asiimwe told Charlton’s website. “It was unexpected as well – I just found out at the start of this week.

“I’m looking forward to experiencing the changing environment as I’ve been at Charlton my whole life and I haven’t really experienced anything like this before, so hopefully it goes well.

“I’m looking forward to training and helping the team in the matches as well. We’ve got good fixtures coming up so I’m just going to try and do my best like I always do.”

Karoy Anderson and Michael Hector have been named in the Jamaica squad for their CONCACAF Nations League semi-final against USA.
