Charlton Athletic defender set for U23 game action – as no risks taken over his fitness or match sharpness

Akin Famewo looks set to get U23 action next week as the Charlton Athletic defender looks to get back to full match sharpness.

There had been talk that the on-loan Norwich centre-back could be back in the matchday squad for today’s fixture at Rochdale.

But Famewo did not make the bench.

Addicks manager Lee Bowyer, speaking to the South London Press on Thursday, said: “He has been out a long time and it might be a case of seeing if we can give him some minutes in the U23s.

“Just to give him 45 minutes, or something like that, to get the rustiness out of him. As much as we’d all like him to come back and play – because he was playing well – we don’t want him to come in and make mistakes because he hasn’t played any game minutes.”
