Charlton Athletic facing contract decision on striker
Charlton Athletic manager Johnnie Jackson has admitted they have had discussions internally about Josh Davison’s future.
The 22-year-old striker was allowed to join Swindon Town in the January transfer window and has scored five goals in 13 League Two starts.
Davison is due to be a free agent this summer but the South London club are understood to have an option to extend his terms in SE7.
The forward has made 24 appearances for Charlton since he signed from non-league in October 2019. He has previously had spells with Woking and Forest Green Rovers before he headed to Swindon.
“We are keeping a close eye on him,” Jackson told the South London Press. “He’s someone we are speaking about and how we proceed with him. He’s still a young player, so there is still a lot of improvement in him and that’s something we need to bear in mind. The loan was the right thing for everyone at that stage – to go out in League Two, play some more football, try to score more goals and get his confidence up.
“He’ll be a better player for it. If and when he does come back to us I think you’ll have seen the improvement. He still has scope to get better.
“We bear those sorts of things in mind when we make decisions. Like with everyone, we need to do that sooner rather than later those decisions have to be made.”
