Charlton Athletic injury crisis: Erhun Oztumer and Chuks Aneke set to miss next few weeks

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Charlton’s injury woes have worsened, with Erhun Oztumer and Chuks Aneke set to remain side-lined for the next few weeks.

Bowyer has been missing up to fourteen bodies at times over the last few games, with results tailing off as the South Londoners struggle to cope without key men.

The Addicks boss had hoped that Aneke would be fit enough to make a return to the bench for today’s defeat at Middlesbrough – but the former Milton Keynes man has suffered a set-back on the road to recovery.

“Chuks broke down on Thursday,” revealed Bowyer, who has been without the forward since a home defeat against Preston at the start of November.

Chuks Aneke hasn’t started a game all season for the Addicks

“The first day that he trained with us, after being outside for a week to ten days working on his fitness and passing all the tests there, the first day he trained with us, which wasn’t even a physical day, he ended up pulling a different muscle.

“Not the same one. Chuks has now had five different muscle injuries since the summer. Different muscles. It’s not good. We were hoping he’d be coming off the bench but we’ve lost him.

“[Oztumer] is injured,” added the Charlton chief.

“He’s done some ligaments in his ankle. He’s in a boot at the moment. From a challenge he took last week. He’s struggling at the moment. I’d say at least a couple of weeks.”
