Charlton Athletic keeper’s future is under discussion – as return to fitness opens up loan possibility again
Ashley Maynard-Brewer’s future is set to be under discussion with the Charlton Athletic goalkeeper now fully recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered while on loan at Gillingham.
The Australian stopper was due to spend the season with the Kent club but picked up the problem in July and was expected to be unavailable until December.
Gillingham quickly moved to sign Crawley Town’s Glenn Morris on loan.
Maynard-Brewer is back playing for Charlton’s U21s.
“We need to have a conversation first and foremost with Gillingham to see where they are,” said Addicks boss Garner. “Once Ash picked up the injury they brought in another goalkeeper who, by all accounts, has done very well for Gillingham.
“I would say he is now getting up to full fitness. If he is going back there to play – brilliant. If he’s going there to sit on the bench then I’d prefer to keep him here.
“We’ll have that conversation and decide what is right for us and Ashley.”

Meanwhile Garner has been left disappointed by Nathan Harness not featuring for Bromley.
The 22-year-old temporarily signed for the Ravens at the end of October.
“It hasn’t worked out the way I certainly wanted it to go because my understanding was that he’d go there and play – and he hasn’t,” said Garner. “In hindsight that wasn’t a loan that we should’ve agreed to.
“It’s still experience for him and he’ll come back at the end of that loan.”
