Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones reacts to departure of technical director Andy Scott

Nathan Jones has spoken about technical director Andy Scott’s departure from Charlton Athletic.

The South London Press broke the news on social media on Friday evening that Scott, 52, was to leave his role at The Valley.

Scott initially joined the Addicks on an interim basis in December 2022 whilst potential new owners SE7 Partners entered a period of exclusivity with previous owner Thomas Sandgaard.

He then left in February 2023 as the deal appeared to fall through – before returning in the summer of that year once the sale of the club was finalised.

Jones, who unlike predecessor Michael Appleton, was given the title of manager rather than head coach in SE7, said: “[Scott] was sort of my first port of call when I came into the football club.

“I wish Andy well. I’ve worked with him, had a close relationship with him. I can only say for the year that I’ve been here, I feel we’re in a much better position and Andy would have played his part in that.”

When asked if he will be playing a role in the naming of a successor to Scott, Jones added: “Moving forward we’ll have news, appointments in certain areas.

“We want to build a football club and that’s a constant, ongoing thing. It’ll be a process of what we need and when we need it and then we’ll let you know.”
