Charlton Athletic retaining interest in Blackburn Rovers defender

Charlton Athletic have made signing a left-sided defender a priority with Blackburn Rovers’ Tayo Edun remaining a player they are interested in.

The Addicks made Panutche Camara their fourth addition of the summer transfer window.

The League One club have looked into doing a deal for Edun, a former Fulham youngster, in previous windows.

Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson recently confirmed that the defender did not have a future with them. Edun has less than 12 months to run on his contract although there is an option that can be triggered.

Tomasson told LancsLive: “He’s not involved and he’s one of the players who will be going away.

“At the moment he doesn’t have that option, I think we will see a lot of movement in the next weeks in that way.”

Edun signed for Lincoln City in January 2021 and scored three goals and claimed nine assists in 64 appearances.

The Islington-born player has been capped by England every level from U17 to U20.

Edun made eight Championship appearances for Blackburn last season, only one of them a start.

Steven Sessegnon played at left-back for Charlton last season despite being right-footed, his availability affected by a knee problem which he had to manage. Fulham released Sessegnon this summer.

Terell Thomas and Matt Penney, signed on loan from Ipswich in the winter window, also played that position.
