Charlton Athletic seal loan deal for Norwich City defender

Charlton Athletic have signed Norwich City defender Akin Famewo on loan.

The 21-year-old, born in Lewisham, has previously had stints with St Mirren and Grimsby Town.

Addicks manager Lee Bowyer said: “He’s a young lad but he’s very, very good.

“He’s good in possession, we lost Naby [Sarr], so we had to replace him.

“Akin is someone who naturally can play on that [left] side, who is confident, who can step out and he can play. He can also play left-back or left of a three – there is a lot of versatility with him, so he’s another good addition.

“Norwich speak very, very highly of him. We’re lucky to have been able to get a player like him.”

New Charlton Athletic owner Thomas Sandgaard added: “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to bring Akin Famewo to the club.

“Lee Bowyer and Steve Gallen have made it clear adding players in defence was important, so I’m happy that, following yesterday’s takeover, we’ve been able to move quickly to get Akin in, as I know the deal has been lined up for a while.”
