Charlton Athletic serve up a tasty treat for their fans as they turn on the style at Morecambe

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Derek Adams’ Morecambe side boasted an impressive home record before Charlton’s midweek 4-1 demolition job, tasting defeat in just one of their last 12 outings at the Mazuma Stadium.

But the Shrimps were dealt a gourmet portion of it on Tuesday night in a display that left many Charlton fans wishing the rest of the division could show such inadequacies more often. The Addicks have certainly dished out a fair bit of it themselves this year.

The first course came after a failed offside trap, Charlton’s haphazard corner routine inadvertently falling into the path of Terell Thomas.

The stand-in left-back for the evening delivered a deft flick into the path of Miles Leaburn. The forward was played onside by a dallying defender but still had plenty to do, bringing the ball down on his chest and unleashing a tasty finish on the turn.

That was Leaburn’s eighth of the campaign but also the first goal from an Addicks striker since he found the net during the defeat at Oxford between Christmas and New Year. A gentle reminder that Charlton have more than their fair share of shortcomings to contend with.

Everybody looks forward to seconds and Ryan Inniss’ nod across for goal number two was so enticing that the Shrimps’ Jensen Weir decided to help himself. He leathered it into the back of his own net with Corey Blackett-Taylor lurking just behind him.

But Blackett-Taylor didn’t have to wait long to get himself on the scoresheet after a first half that saw Morecambe’s support make a hasty exit. Tyreece Campbell delivered the perfect lofted cross that was gobbled up by Blackett-Taylor.

This is still Charlton, so there was a moment of madness that led to conceding in the second half.

Inniss tried a backheel on halfway, the ball rebounded off his standing leg and starting a home counter that was finished off by Donald Love.

Scott Fraser put the game to bed 21 minutes from time, devouring his chance following a neat one-two with Jes Rak-Sakyi. A first win in six for Dean Holden and his side. He’ll be hoping his inconsistent squad now have the appetite for more.

STAR MAN
Tyreece Campbell. Carried a threat all evening.

BEST MOMENT
The one-two between Fraser and Rak-Sakyi for Charlton’s fourth.
