Charlton Athletic set to appeal Ryan Inniss’ red card against Fleetwood Town

Charlton Athletic look set to appeal Ryan Inniss’ red card in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Fleetwood Town.

The former Crystal Palace centre-back received his third dismissal of the campaign for bringing down Harvey Macadam on the edge of the Addicks’ penalty area.

If the sending off stands then Inniss will miss the matches against Forest Green, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday.

“It’s never a sending off in a million years,” said Charlton manager Dean Holden. “There is Lucas Ness on the cover. It’s a poor decision but I’m not here to slate referees, I’m a qualified referee myself. It’s a difficult job.

“It’s a poor decision and we’ll obviously look to appeal.

“He (Inniss) is outside the width of the six-yard box so it’s not a clear goalscoring opportunity, not at all, and there is a covering defender.

“I don’t see the point in going and speaking to the referee after the game because he doesn’t change the decision.

“I’ll be interested to see what the match report says. Ryan has gone in with the outside of his foot to win the ball. Is it for violent conduct and a lunge? Which is wrong, if it is. Is it for denying a goalscoring opportunity? Which is wrong, if it is. We’ll see what the report says and take some advice.

“We didn’t do enough to win the game, I have to be honest about that. I don’t think too many of our players got to the levels they have shown recently.

“When we got the ball to the final part of the pitch we weren’t good enough consistently to work the goalkeeper.”
