Charlton Athletic set to lose goalkeeper after League One match at Port Vale

Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Joe Wollacott is set to be available for two more matches before jetting off to represent Ghana at the World Cup.

The Addicks number one is set to feature in tomorrow evening’s EFL Cup tie at Stevenage and then the League One fixture at Burton Albion this weekend.

But Wollacott is then expected to hook up with his country as they get ready to compete in Qatar.

It leaves Craig MacGillivray in pole position to play but Australian Ashley Maynard-Brewer is now fully recovered from a shoulder injury which had kept him out since July.

“There was a provisional squad that he was part of and we’re just waiting for confirmation of their final squad,” said Charlton boss Garner, who made the stopper a priority target from his old club Swindon Town. “My understanding is that he will meet up a week Monday.

“We haven’t had that definitely confirmed yet, but that is my understanding.

“He’s been their number one for the best part of the last year. I’d expect him to not only be in the squad but hopefully to be starting in the games for them.

“We’ve got good depth and cover there. I’ve said all along this season that we’ve got good strength in the goalkeeping department. Craig is ready to come in and play, Ashley is now back to full fitness and we’ve had Nathan Harness out on loan at Bromley.”
