Charlton Athletic sign Coventry City striker Matt Godden on two-year contract
Charlton Athletic have completed a deal for Coventry City striker Matt Godden.
The South London Press understands the Addicks have handed the experienced frontman a two-year contract with a club option of an extra 12 months.
Godden, 32, has scored 32 goals and collected eight assists in 117 Championship appearances.
Charlton manager Nathan Jones had made adding to his frontline a priority.
The Addicks boss is set to want five first-team strikers at his disposal next season but is about to bid farewell to Alfie May, who is joining Birmingham City on a three-year contract after a fee was agreed.
May scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, 23 in the league as he won the division’s Golden Boot award.
Godden will compete with Miles Leaburn, Chuks Aneke and Daniel Kanu for a forward spot but another incoming is expected in that department.
He has netted 50 times in 156 appearances for the Sky Blues, who he joined from Peterborough in 2019.
Canterbury-born Godden won League One promotion with Coventry in 2020.
We reported in May that he was on a list of attacking targets for Charlton.
