Charlton Athletic sign former AFC Wimbledon loanee George Dobson following his Sunderland release

Charlton Athletic have signed George Dobson on a free transfer after Sunderland terminated his contract.

The Black Cats announced this morning that the 23-year-old midfielder, who still had 12 months to run on his terms, had been released.

And Charlton have made Dobson, who plays an anchoring role in the middle of the park, their third signing of the summer.

AFC Wimbledon were also keen on the former Arsenal and West Ham United youngster, but he has opted to make the move to SE7.

Dobson has played 139 matches at League One level.

He impressed for the Dons after joining them on loan in January and stood out in the 2-2 draw against Charlton at Plough Lane in March, which was Nigel Adkins’ first match in charge of the Addicks.
