Charlton Athletic stand firm on Bonne and Doughty – as boss Bowyer labels offers as “silly”

Lee Bowyer has accused clubs of making “silly” offers for Charlton duo Macauley Bonne and Alfie Doughty.

The Addicks rejected a bid from QPR earlier this week for Bonne.

Reports have claimed that the west Londoners have come back with a second offer. But the South London Press has again been told today that the forward is not for sale.

And there was speculation in Scotland that Celtic had seen a £650,000 offer rejected for winger Doughty.

Charlton are under a transfer embargo as their ownership situation wrangles on.

“People are taking liberties with their offers,” said Bowyer on Thursday morning. “They are silly offers which we wouldn’t entertain.

“The offers come to Steve [Gallen, director of football] and then it goes to the directors. The directors have said they are not for sale. We bought Macauley as a project and so far he is developing well.

“If we hadn’t done a good job with him there wouldn’t be any interest in him.

“I took him off at half-time against West Ham because we’ve got a league game on Saturday and he’s our main striker at the moment.

“For us as a club, why would we sell Macauley now? Unless it was some crazy offer then we wouldn’t sell Macauley. It would be tough to replace him. So it doesn’t make sense.

“Alfie comes into that bracket as well. Whatever the offer was [by Celtic] it’s not enough. That’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter if they’d offered £1m if we’ve said no and value him at more than that.”
