Charlton Athletic striker Mason Burstow linked with Chelsea

Charlton Athletic striker Mason Burstow has been linked with Chelsea.

The 18-year-old had been trialling with the Blues when the Addicks – knowing the Premier League giants were interested – stepped in after he scored against them in a development match. He joined their academy in October 2020.

Burstow has scored six goals in 14 first-team appearances since he broke into the senior set-up this season.

The South London Press had been told earlier in the week that there was growing interest in the young frontman, who was born in Woolwich.

But senior figures at the League One club are not expecting Burstow to be on the move before Monday’s transfer deadline.

It has been claimed today that Chelsea are tracking him and that a bid from another Premier League outfit had been rejected.

Burstow scored with his first touch in professional football – a 6-1 win over Crawley Town in the EFL Trophy in August.

In recent matches he has started up top in League One and headed in his second League One goal in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Fleetwood Town.

Burstow signed his first professional contract in the summer.
