Charlton Athletic suffer relegation to League One

Charlton Athletic have been relegated to League One after a nightmare finale to the Championship season.

The Addicks lost 4-0 at Leeds United and that ensured they needed results elsewhere to go in their favour – but both Barnsley and Luton Town won to ensure that Lee Bowyer’s side finished 22nd in the table.

Wigan are also set to make the drop as they face a 12-point deduction for entering administration.

The only way that Charlton had total control over their fate was to win at Elland Road.

But Leeds were in rampant mood and the contest was effectively over before the break with Ben White and Stuart Dallas on target.

Tyler Roberts and Jamie Shackleton netted after the break.

Charlton’s players and staff stayed on the pitch at the final whistle as they waited for the other scores to come in – but it ended up being bad news as two of their drop rivals got the results they needed to make great escapes.

I have been a fan of the reds as far as I can remember and I feel they have tried there best all season if football was about 90minuits they would not have gone down . They drew from winning position and lost from drawing positions a lot of times. I remember the game at Bristol city where the referee place 10 minuites over until Bristol scored. I wish the manager all the best whatever I think knowing him he has kept his temper throughout and I wish him all the best in the future weather it be in s e 7 or afar. If he leaves ask Johnny Jackson to give it a go
