Charlton Athletic v Sheffield Wednesday team news: Addicks name three full debutants for Owls clash – but have five aged 21 or under on the bench
BY LOUIS MENDEZ
Nigel Adkins names three debutants as Charlton open their League One campaign at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray plus midfielders Sean Clare and George Dobson make their first competitive starts for the club against the Owls.
Ryan Inniss, who spent spells of last season out with a quad injury, has been managed through pre-season and starts at centre-half alongside returning Norwich loanee Akin Famewo.
Jayden Stockley leads the line for the first time since making his loan from Preston a permanent deal in the summer and he will wear the captain’s armband with club skipper Jason Pearce amongst the substitutes.
The Addicks have named five players aged 21 or under on the bench – an indication of how the squad still lacks some depth.
Charlton: MacGillivray, Gunter, Famewo, Inniss, Matthews, Morgan, Dobson, Clare, Washington, Jaiyesimi, Stockley. Subs: Harness, Pearce, Davison, Watson, Ghandour, Clayden, Elerewe.
