Charlton Athletic will not block summer exit for winger

Mark Marshall has been told that he is free to leave Charlton Athletic.

The 32-year-old winger has 12 months to run on the contract he signed last summer after joining from Bradford City.

Marshall featured sparingly under caretaker manager Lee Bowyer in the closing months of the 2017-18 campaign and did not play any of the League One play-offs against Shrewsbury Town – not even making the matchday 18 for the second leg in Shropshire.

Australian Andrew Muir is still waiting for his bid to buy the Addicks to pass the EFL’s ‘fit and proper’ test to conclude his takeover of the South London club.

  • So who’s made this decision then? Can only be Bowyer, right?

  • Poor show. I was so pleased when we signed him as he was the best player in 2017 play off final. He hasn’t had a run in the team due mainly to being injured early on. Wish him well

  • I liked Mark Marshall, but if we want promotion we need better players for sure. I wish him well, but we need to buy! Would he make Wigan or Blackburn team, I think not.
