Charlton Athletic winger Charlie Kirk undergoing Blackpool medical

Charlton winger Charlie Kirk is set to join Blackpool on loan with the Championship side also including the option to make the move permanent in the summer.

The 24-year-old has failed to settle with the South Londoners, making just five League One starts since a £500,000 transfer from Crewe in the summer.

The South London Press had been told of at least one club in England’s third tier that were keen on a temporary deal for Kirk.

But the young attacker is due to undergo a medical with the Tangerines today as he gets the chance to test himself at Championship level.

There had been suggestions that Kirk would only be cleared to complete his move once Charlton had clinched the signature of Middlesbrough’s Marcus Browne – but that is not the case. The South Londoners are still working on a permanent transfer for Browne, who has been out for a year after sustaining ACL damage.

Kirk has struggled to force his way into Johnnie Jackson’s plans despite the Addicks failing to fire fully this season.

“It’s been difficult for him to get game time and he’s a good player with a good reputation,” Charlton boss Jackson told our paper last week. “He needs to be playing games. If there was the right opportunity for a loan, it is something we would consider. But obviously it has to be right for all parties.

“The lad has been first class with his attitude. He trains hard every day. It’s just that his opportunities have been limited. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet. I think he would admit that. But he is young, he’s got lots of time and he has got a long-term contract, so we have to try and find the best path for him for the remainder of the season.”
