Charlton Athletic yet to offer deals to any of their out-of-contract players
Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson has revealed that none of his squad whose deals are set to run out have been offered new contracts yet.
And striker Conor Washington, awarded their second goal in Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Cambridge United, has confirmed he is yet to hear anything from the club.
Jake Forster-Caskey, skipper Jason Pearce, Ryan Inniss, Ben Purrington, Ben Watson, Pape Souare and Chris Gunter are all due to be free agents.
Addicks owner Thomas Sandgaard is back in the UK and is set to stay until May 1, when Charlton Women play Durham at The Valley.
“Nothing has been offered out yet but they’re ongoing discussions,” said Jackson, when asked if there were new deals on the table for some members of his side.
“I don’t deal with that side of it. We talk about the ones that we like, that we want to keep around the place and then it’s obviously over to the people above to decide how that looks exactly – how those negotiations and discussions take place. That’s an ongoing thing.
“[Sandgaard] being over means we’ll get to spend more time together. We’ll see more of him at the training ground and probably as a consequence you’ll have more of those discussions.
“Face to face definitely helps as well. Hopefully we can progress those and really nail down where we want to go with it – the types we want to bring in that will help us improve on the pitch and move the club forwards.”
Jackson was asked if any of the current squad had been told of their fate yet. He said: “It’s my job just to work with the players. I stay well out of that. I don’t want that to impact on the football side of things.”
Washington is on 11 goals after Chuks Aneke’s shot clipped off him at Cambridge.
“No,” he answered when asked if he knew what lay ahead for him. “It’s very much in the club’s hands. I just want to finish the season strong, stay fit and get a couple of goals and see what happens in the summer.”
