Charlton Athletic youngster “very unlucky” not to play more matches this season
Nathan Jones says that Zach Mitchell has been “very unlucky” not to feature more this season.
The 19-year-old defender recently signed a new long-term contract with the Addicks.
Mitchell has started both of their EFL Trophy matches, including this week’s 3-0 success over Chelsea U21s, as well as featuring in the EFL Cup loss to Birmingham.
“I really like him,” Charlton boss Jones told the South London Press. “When I came in we had a big squad and he was on loan. I didn’t really get as many eyes on him but I wanted to keep him here because I had heard good things about him.
“He did excellently in pre-season and relatively excellent in terms of certain things. He is growing week in and week out.
“He has been very, very unlucky not to start more first team games but I’m sure that will come.”
