Charlton Athletic’s takeover talks hanging in the balance
Charlton Athletic’s takeover talks are hanging in the balance – with Keith Harris (pictured to the left) understood to be the key.
The 65-year-old has become deputy chairman at Everton but also has an established track record of finding buyers for football clubs.
Harris was tasked with trying to drum up interest in a deal – with Duchatelet seeking £50million for the League One outfit.
Duchatelet has been in discussions over a deal with a consortium which is understood to include at least two individuals – one of those Australian tycoon Andrew Muir.
Gerard Murphy was expected to be the new chief executive.
Harris was tasked with finding other investors to push the takeover through and it is unclear if he has achieved that.
It leaves the buyout, which has already dragged on for months, in danger of collapsing.
Duchatelet has cut spending across the board at the League One club – and covered some of the summer losses with the sales of Ezri Konsa and Josh Magennis to Brentford and Charlton respectively.
The Addicks will come under pressure soon to provide an update on the situation, with the very real possibility that a change of ownership is not close to happening.

Nothing suprises me. I have never believed that the takeover was a realistic proposition. The fact that additional investors are still required even at this stage proves what l said months and months ago ..that the AFC simply do not have the money. Clearly RD is not prepared to invest in the squad but to sell players to balance the books and this means the clubs future is indeed very bleak indeed. I can now see a relegation battle by the end of the season notva fight for promotion, and even if we did achieve the impossible there will be no funds to bolster the squad. The days of hope are gone
