Charlton boss Bowyer impressed by on-loan Norwich man’s debut display

Akin Famewo made an impressive start to his Charlton Athletic loan stay – considering he barely trained with them before debuting at Lincoln.
The 21-year-old Norwich City centre-back, born in Lewisham, played just more than an hour in Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Sincil Bank.
“My worry when you take these young lads from U23 football is that it is not real,” said Addicks manager Lee Bowyer. “It’s ‘you have it, we have it’ – it’s not very physical.
“So my worry when you bring a young lad in is what their physicality is going to be like, especially as a defender. But he got everything right at the weekend. He did really well.
“Akin had been out on loan in Scotland and we knew he had been okay there. In possession he was very good. But he is another who hasn’t played any minutes before joining us – he’ll get better and better as the season goes on.
“He trained with us Friday and that was it – he went straight into the team. He didn’t even have a proper training session. I told him the basics – to get touch tight in the box.
“We’ll work on him and he will improve and the team will improve.”
