Charlton boss explains why Ipswich Town loanee not risked against Port Vale

Charlton manager Dean Holden is hopeful that Panutche Camara will be fit for next weekend’s League One match at Oxford.

The midfielder, on a season-long loan from Ipswich, played no part in today’s 3-2 defeat to Port Vale at The Valley.

Holden said: “Pan has come in and not played a great deal in the last 18 months. He’s played two games in a week and just felt something under his foot. It was a real risk if he had done any further damage it could’ve been a mid to long-term injury. We had to be really mindful of that.

“Unfortunately Pan missed out. Hopefully we’ll get him through this week and get him back for the Oxford game.”

Meanwhile the Addicks boss is backing Alfie May to go on a scoring streak after opening his account against Vale.

The former Cheltenham Town striker rifled home from the penalty spot.

Daniel Kanu headed Charlton’s other goal, the academy product netting for the second league match in a row.

“I’m sure Alfie will fly now,” said Holden. “Mentally that will be big for him.

“I was really pleased with that first 25 minutes – Daniel and Alfie gave them problems. We played on the front foot. The majority of that period was played in their half.

“That is where it is disappointing that we didn’t capitalise. When you’ve only got that slender lead you are always at the mercy of a mistake or two – that’s where we’re at, at the moment.”
