Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson says talks are ongoing regarding assistant manager role at The Valley

Johnnie Jackson says that talks are ongoing regarding who will be his assistant manager at The Valley.
The Charlton boss was named as the permanent appointee in the SE7 hotseat a fortnight ago after originally being given the reins on a temporary basis following Nigel Adkins’ dismissal.
Jason Euell has been filling in as caretaker assistant boss during that time – the former Addicks forward was previously promoted from overseeing the u23s to first-team coach shortly after Adkins’ arrival in April.
“We’re talking about that now,” answered Jackson when asked if there was any update on filling the position of his number two.
“I’ve had a couple of discussions with the owner [Thomas Sandgaard]. We recognise that we’re a coach down in that department. So, we are quite light with resources there. It’s something to look at. Nothing has been decided there. Euelly has been brilliant since we took over and Euelly stepped up to being caretaker assistant whilst I was caretaker manager. Euelly has been absolutely first class and a big help. A big part of what we’re trying to do.
“Really happy with his contribution but aware that we’re being stretched a little bit thin. There’s time as manager where you want to take a step back so you can see the session from the outside at times before you step in. They’re the sort of times where you might need an extra pair of hands.
“Anthony Hayes and Dan Senda from the u23s have been helping us out on matchdays but they’ve got their own priorities as well with their roles that are really important roles at the football club. Probably a hole that we’ll look to fill at some stage. The appointments need to be the right kind of people that you bring in. It’s certainly nothing that we’ll rush.”
Jackson had long-held ambitions to manage before finally being given his chance at The Valley but says he never had his heart set on any one person to be alongside him in the dugout.
He added: “There’s not any one particular person that I’ve always had designs on. When you are thinking about the future and management and you think about types of people you’d like to have around you – I’ve definitely thought about that. But it’s not any one person that I’d hang my hat on at the minute and obviously people you might want might be in work.
“It’s always moving and changing, that situation. Those appointments have to be right, they’re key positions in a football club. Definitely not going to rush anything there and as I’ve said before I’m really happy with Euelly and his contribution. How much he’s helped me so far. It’s an ongoing conversation and something that, if we’re going to act on it, has to be the right type of appointment.”
