Charlton boss Jones asked if he had any influence on most recent incoming transfer activity

Nathan Jones has cleared up whether he had any input on Charlton’s final couple of player additions at the end of the winter transfer window.

The Addicks appointed the 50-year-old in the early part of the month, just days after the trading period for deals was over.

Charlton signed Thierry Small on a short-term deal until the end of the campaign – a player that was on Southampton’s books at the same time as Jones was in charge.

The League One club were able to do that move outside of the transfer window due to the 19-year-old left-sided defender being released by the Saints.

Charlton also snapped up Kayne Ramsay from Harrogate on deadline day for an undisclosed fee.

“I was asked my opinion but to be very respectful – I wasn’t in the building or anything then,” said Jones, when asked by the South London Press how much input he had on Small and Ramsay arriving in SE7.

“I’m probably not responsible for a lot of the signings in the January transfer window but now we can build from there.

“If there was any categorical problem or there was a disagreement in any way then I would’ve spoken to the people and said: ‘If I’m going to take the job….”. There wasn’t any major, major issue in terms of moving forward.”

Charlton have been linked with Dwight Gayle. The former Crystal Palace striker is a free agent after leaving Stoke City.

So would Jones like to add any non-contract players to his squad for the run-in?

“We would only look at it if those individuals involved are better than what we have and can impact very quickly on what we’re trying to achieve,” said the Addicks boss.
