Charlton boss Lee Bowyer explains why Arsenal loanee Krystian Bielik was a late withdrawal from side to face Scunthorpe

Krystian Bielik missed Charlton’s win over Scunthorpe United due to a shoulder injury, revealed Lee Bowyer.

The Polish midfielder, who is at The Valley on a season-long loan from Premier League Arsenal, was due to start Easter Monday’s clash with the Iron but was withdrawn from the side shortly before kick-off.

Charlton’s League One play-off campaign will begin in three weeks’ time and supporters will hope the busy engine-roomer will return in time to feature.

Charlton Athletic’s Krystian Bielik warms up

“Krystian was a strange one,” explained Charlton boss Bowyer.

“He fell funny yesterday. I always say that they train the way they play. Him and Joe (Aribo) tangled, Krystian fell a bit funny and hurt his shoulder. He got up this morning and felt OK. He came to the game this afternoon, the doctors gave him a little test, rotating it and he was in pain.

“He came to see me and said ‘I’d rather not play. I want to play but I don’t want to risk it.’ He dislocated his other shoulder last season and he said ‘I’d rather not.’ It made sense to me. So, we had to adjust it at quarter past one.”
